Risk Management Advisor - Commercial Lines (St. Louis)

This position will develop and implement individualized sales plans for commercial insurance products and coordinate service of accounts, deliver renewals on a timely basis and secure quotes when necessary, and manage the retention of existing customers.

Essential Functions

  • Establish a network of referrals and sales leads using an organized prospecting system.
  • Generate leads by cold calling and following up with correspondence.
  • Assist clients in selecting appropriate coverage that provides the best insurance protection for their assets and liabilities.
  • Participate in community/professional organizations, civic activities or other less structured social activities to generate sales leads.
  • Ensure formal proposal is prepared and oral presentation is made to client.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent experience required
  • 2-3 years previous commercial lines or industry related insurance sales experience preferred.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the producer in managing client's exposure to risk and protecting client's assets by coordinating services for development, retention, and rounding of accounts.

Group Benefits Plan Analyst - (Troy)


We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Plan Analyst in our Troy office. The Plan Analyst is responsible for obtaining and analyzing group benefit program proposals for both clients and prospects. The Plan Analyst analyzes bids for group health and welfare coverage for clients, provides benchmarking research and analysis, and develops detailed client reports. The Plan Analyst provides substantial financial analysis for their assigned clients. This position spends approximately 90% of their time in Excel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      • Provides support in obtaining the most competitive insurance proposals in the marketplace, financial reporting and carrier / vendor evaluation.
      • Drafts and submits requests for proposal (RFPs) for all health and welfare plans. Reviews RFP responses for reasonableness, accuracy and meeting client’s requirements.
      • Negotiates with carriers on behalf of clients to ensure the best pricing available for renewals or new business offerings.
      • Performs complex data analysis and complex financial analysis.
      • Constructs detailed renewal reports, produces monthly and quarterly reports for budget tracking.
      • Researches/reviews various benchmarking sources and uses this knowledge to determine the most beneficial source for a particular client.
      • Gathers the most accurate data available and summarizes it in a usable, error-free format for the final presentation. The Plan Analyst is expected to develop a final work product that is clear, concise and accurate in a format that is easily read and understood.
      • Answers client's questions both orally and in writing. Communicates effectively both internally and externally on matters related to client work product, work in progress, market information and other projects as assigned.
      • Illustrates knowledge of carrier plans, with a primary focus on area-rated, fully-insured and self-funded medical and ancillary benefits. Attends carrier meetings to stay current on changing industry trends.
      • Develops and maintains a solid understanding of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access (preferred) and other tools and methods provided by the company to effectively complete work product.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

      • Bachelor's degree in finance, mathematics or other related area preferred.
      • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in finance or in the healthcare benefits industry working for a group, insurance carrier, broker or general agency preferred.

Responsibilities include developing risk management strategies based on a consultative model, performing policy/system/environment assessments, providing client employee training, developing written policies & procedures, supporting client safety personnel, documenting activity and keeping abreast of federal guidelines & regulations. Services should help clients reduce exposure to loss, and ensure clients are in compliance with governmental agencies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc. Position will support the sales team in prospecting and client retention and will partner with other consultants on the Employer Services Consultation Team.

Essential Functions:

Perform Risk Consulting for Clients:

      • Respond to customer questions and concerns on safety and compliance issues.
      • Perform assigned key client projects and fee-based projects.
      • Perform site assessments to determine potential loss causing issues as well as non-compliance with governmental regulations.
      • Review existing policies & procedures to determine compliance with various agencies such OSHA or DOT, as well as requirements of insurance companies.
      • Provide loss-causing information to customers and producers using loss information, photographs, data, graphs, and the workers compensation experience modification worksheet.
      • Provide alternative approaches and risk prevention/reduction suggestions in order for customers to better implement safety and loss prevention programs/strategies.
      • Develop written safety policies & procedures specific for customer needs to comply with insurance company requirements, governmental regulations, or other entities.
      • Provide quality safety training presentations for clients’ employees, supervisors or management on a variety of loss prevention topics.
      • Support client safety personnel/committee by attending safety meetings and/or providing resources.
      • Assess amount of time/commitment projects will take and craft Scope of Services proposals.
      • Learn and promote Howalt+McDowell’s online Risk Management Center.

Maintain Relationships with Insurance Carriers and Vendors:

      • Conduct and participate in appropriate meetings to ensure proper activities are being performed to meet goals.
      • Partner with carrier/vendor safety & loss control personnel.
      • Keep team informed of vendor and carrier personnel changes.

Act as an Advisor/Consultant for Sales Team on Sales Calls with Clients:

      • Participate in prospect and client calls as requested.
      • Provide safety & compliance expertise to Sales Team on client specific issues, meeting directly with client in support of Sales Team when needed.
      • Provide direct customer service to client on accounts when required.

Partner with Other Members of Employer Services Team:

      • Collaborate with Employer Services Consultants in: Claims Management & Analysis, HR Consulting & Compliance, Legal Consulting, and Health & Well-being.
      • Innovate to develop services and solutions to differentiate Howalt+McDowell Insurance in the marketplace.

Qualifications

      • Technical Support:

Summary

The Client Executive will work closely with producers and clients to develop effective employee benefit strategies and programs. Responsibilities include serving as the primary internal point of contact and will work closely with assigned clients to form effective business relationships through proactive client service, managing renewals, and ongoing problem resolution.

Essential Functions:

PROACTIVE CLIENT SERVICE

              • Develop effective business relationships with assigned clients in conjunction with producer through in-person visits, entertainment opportunities, telephone and electronic contact at multiple levels within client organization.
              • Act as primary contact for all day-to day service issues and other inquiries for all assigned clients; act as liaison between client and vendors/carriers to resolve issues and identify process improvement opportunities.
              • Manage client PREVENT Service Plan with corresponding activities and deliverables in conjunction with producer.
              • Review internal compliance and client disclosure requirements, external vendor/carrier contracts, summary plan documents (SPD's) and employee communications to ensure alignment with client expectations and legal requirements in conjunction with producer.
              • Develop strong understanding of health & welfare benefit products, services, technical tools, and vendor/carrier markets. Includes developing relationships with vendors/carriers in order to understand and compare products and services being offered and recommend solutions to clients.
              • Perform claims and utilization analysis to look for trends and patterns; may involve use of Decision Master Warehouse and actuarial tools to develop claims projections, set rates and model employee cost-sharing scenarios in conjunction with producer and Health Management Consultant.
              • Request Schedule A information and coordinate the preparation of Form 5500 filing. Manage implementation of new business. Oversee implementation project plan and facilitate internal/external resources, communications and meetings.
              • Conduct employee communication meetings when appropriate.

MANAGING CLIENT RENEWALS/MARKETING

              • Analyze carrier reports, benefit plan structures, plan design and industry trends and make appropriate benefit plan recommendations in conjunction with producer.
              • Prepare client renewals and negotiate rates with carriers in conjunction with producer, and present alternate benefit options when appropriate.
              • Conduct marketing of benefit plans when necessary; negotiate rates with carriers in conjunction with producer, and present alternate benefit options when appropriate.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required; in-depth working knowledge of employee benefit plans with 3+ years of industry experience and demonstrated relationship management skills with 2+ years of client management responsibilities. Experience managing, implementing and renewing small and large group health & welfare plans including medical, dental, ancillary, FSA and COBRA plans. Working knowledge of ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, and other state and federal employee benefit regulations. Basic understanding of the key challenges in employee benefits plans and current health care trends. We are currently seeking an individual to fill a full-time position within our Select Business Unit as a Franchise Client Manager. The Franchise Client Manager is responsible for managing franchisor client relationships while working closely with the Producer, Marketing and Client Specialists.
