Matt has spent his lifetime in the agribusiness space. Born and raised on a farm in rural Missouri, Matt learned production agriculture on the family farm raising corn and soybeans in addition to baling hay for their cattle operation. To this day, Matt maintains an ownership presence in the operation, currently managed by his brother Joe.
Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and began his insurance career on the actuarial side of the business working in the crop insurance program. Deciding that work was too far from the end-user, Matt moved into Product Development where he was able to interact with farmers and build new risk management solutions. Matt helped The Climate Corporation launch into the Federal crop insurance space where his responsibilities included opening and growing the Kansas City office. After Climate exited the crop insurance space, Matt spent several years in ag technology leading both sales and product development teams.
Matt joined Marsh and McLennan Agency (MMA) with a few thoughts in mind: 1) unlike some forms of ag technology, insurance is an essential ‘input’; 2) MMA provides best-of-best tools, resources and servicing. Sadly, many in agriculture are not afforded this experience; 3) at some point, technology and insurance will more closely align within agriculture. Matt’s primary customer focus includes ag retail, commercial grain and large farms.
Matt lives in the Kansas City area with his wife, Stephanie, and their three kids. When not working, Matt can be found doing activities with his kids – his personal favorite being the baseball teams he coaches.
