St. Louis Internship Program


J.W. Terrill’s internship is a comprehensive program that provides students with real world risk management and insurance experience. Interns will learn how to apply the concepts learned in the classroom to actual projects and will develop professional skills applicable to the business environment. The program is a variety of in-depth training sessions and hands-on experience.

J.W. Terrill’s internship program gives students the chance to find their interest and fit it into the insurance industry. J.W. Terrill’s goal is to provide our interns with insight into all areas of the insurance industry and act as a springboard into full-time careers in the field they desire.

Program Structure

Our summer internship program spans eleven weeks. The 2020 summer program dates are May 18th - August 7th, 2020.

During these 11 weeks, interns will work directly with their manager and mentor in order to complete projects specific to their unit. Interns will also gain knowledge in all of J.W. Terrill’s expertise through a structured seminar series and open discussion meetings.

  • Personal Insurance
  • Individual Life & Health Plans
  • Surety Bonds
  • Loss Control Services
  • Claims Advocacy
  • Risk Management Consulting
  • HR Consulting
  • Wellness Programs
  • Third Party Administration

The summer interns will conclude their program by working on a joint project that will be presented to senior management.


Interns are expected to:

  • Be present for the full eleven week time frame unless approved time off
    (flexible with summer vacations)

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Complete at least two (2) full semesters of college course work by the start of the internship

We don’t waste our intern’s time running to fetch coffee for their boss. Our goal is to maximize our interns’ time this summer by providing a structured program encompassing in-depth seminars on a wide variety of topics relevant to the insurance industry and meaningful project assignments to reinforce learning objectives. Interns will leave knowing industry career options along with relevant work experience to set the stage for their career after college.

Build Connections
Our program is designed to be highly collaborative between interns, their managers, and other J.W. Terrill employees. Interns will be introduced to our business partners during visits to top insurance carriers and clients. Interns finish this program with a long list of new connections.
