As today’s workforce continues to evolve, so do the paid leave benefits employers offer. This includes adding new offerings, such as for pet bereavement or menopause leave. This also includes expanding the valves of generic leaves to allow for more circumstances, such as grandparent bonding.

Luba Pale, Senior Consultant, Absence Disability and Life at Marsh McLennan Agency, recently spoke with SHRM about the latest trends in specialized paid leave in the U.S. Luba discussed engaging with concierge-style service providers, what kinds of pets qualify for bereavement, and more.

For worst-case scenarios in which an employee dies or becomes disabled or terminally ill, some employers have engaged "concierge"-style service providers who will convey benefits on behalf of a company, says Luba.
