Caroline Murray, SPD, project executive, LEED AP, WEDG, AGC, MA sustainability advisory committee chair, invites Jason Brewer, vice president of business insurance at Marsh McLennan Agency, and Jamie Evans, director of safety, Turner Construction Company, to the podcast to discuss the critical issues of safety on the job site due to climate change.
Jason tells us more about the extreme weather changes. "Here we are in the summer heat, and the 90-degree days are upon us." Jason says, "What is alarming is the increase in the number of those days we are now experiencing. Since the 1870s, Boston has gone from five and a half 90-degree days per summer up to 13 now. And it's all around the region. Central Park, New York, for example-nine and a half 90-degree days back in 1869, there are 16.5 now. That's an extra week of high heat that construction teams didn't have to deal with back then. Global temperatures have risen since the 1850s, but it's not just a global trend-we are able to measure the trend locally as well."
