Dr. Monte Masten, MD, MBA, MPH, FACOG, serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Marsh McLennan Agency. In this role, Dr. Masten leads the MMA Planning & Analytics for Total Health (PATH) team, which provides data analysis and health risk mitigation strategies for MMA clients. Dr. Masten has over 25 years of leadership experience in patient care, consulting, managed care, population health management, and pharmacy management with diverse teams at national health plans, large employers, and health systems. Most recently, he was National Senior Medical Director, Clinical Transformation at Aetna based out of the Atlanta, GA office. Dr. Masten earned his medical degree at Loyola University of Chicago, his MBA from University of Tennessee and his MPH from University of North Carolina. In addition, he earned a graduate certificate in Biomedical Informatics from Oregon Health and Sciences University.

With over three decades of employee benefits leadership experience from both the carrier and consultant side, Rick Kelly has a successful record of running businesses and increasing revenue and earnings in different markets and segments. He is known for his passion around culture and organizational effectiveness and is a recognized expert in risk management strategies, pharmacy management, deep dive analytics, and health care delivery. Rick is frequently quoted in articles, regularly serves on advisory councils, and is an active participant in panel discussions.

Kate Valette is the Vice President, Clinical Director for the Workers’ Health 360® program. In this role, Kate provides innovative consultation that targets the impact of employee health across business lines and collaborates with PATH team members to develop a cohesive strategy to reduce risk of injury and illness and help control health-related costs for employers. Kate has over 30 years of experience in various healthcare settings including patient care, case management, corporate Total Rewards, and consulting. Corporate program leadership included in-house disability management, leave administration, workers compensation, and wellness platform development.

Laura Moore serves as a Health Management Consultant for MMA’s Employee Health & Benefits division. In this role, she is responsible for partnering with clients and their respective account teams by evaluating available data to identify behaviors that influence or compromise employee’s health and identifies factors that inspire learning or those that hinder it. She also fosters the client’s total population health through the process of health education and well-being programs.

Nancy Novak is a Clinical Consultant for Marsh McLennan Agency’s Planning and Analytics for Total Health (PATH) program. In this role, Nancy collaboratively supports employers by providing clinically sound and fiscally responsible strategies that control health care costs, improve health outcomes, and promote employee engagement. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, Nancy’s spirit of adventure led her to join the Army Nurse Corps. Her time in service afforded her the opportunity to work as a registered nurse in a variety of states and countries; introducing her to health care on a multicultural level. She has 16 years of direct patient care experience prior to her transition to the corporate setting where she started in medical management as a registered nurse case manager. During her tenure in the health insurance arena, she was Manager of the Complex Care unit for the Integrated Health Model. In this role, Nancy managed a team of nurses who provided support to these complex members during the most challenging of times that often accompanies impaired health.

Karen strives to provide her clients straightforward legal advice to help them craft effective business solutions to human resources challenges. She represents organizations of all sizes, from start-ups to companies listed in the Fortune 500. Karen has significant experience in a host of industries including nursing homes, physician practices, and health and rehabilitation centers, as well as travel and entertainment, fast food, and retail. Karen is often hired to serve as an independent investigator for employers facing complex and serious discrimination claims.

Marjory Robertson is Assistant Vice President & Senior Counsel, advising Sun Life on its own employment law issues and also advising the Sun Life business on law and compliance issues related to Sun Life’s Absence Management and Accommodation Services.   Marjory holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, cum laude, and a juris doctor, magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School.

Susan S. Mahaffee has more than 20 years of experience managing the human resource function for both public and private multinational companies.  Most recently, she was the Chief People Officer (CPO) at Majestic Steel USA and in early 2023, decided to follow her passion for helping leaders at all stages of personal and professional development to, as she has said often, "make an impact on people's lives". Her expertise has come from "working her way up" in multiple industries, priding herself in the ability to stay connected and present with employees in the field/on the floor,  leading cross-functional teams, and coaching senior executives for success.

  • Registration for this event is currently closed.
  • This is a two-day event that will begin on Tuesday, March 12 at 11:30 am (with registration opening at 10:00 am) and end on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:30 am.
  • The entire event will take place at The Kingsmill Resort at 1010 Kingsmill Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
  • Space is limited, so please RSVP by Friday, February 23.
  • All meals will be provided.
  • There is no need to make your own hotel reservation, as lodging will be provided for all registered guests.
  • By submitting our registration form, you agree that accepting complimentary accommodations from MMA does not violate your own company’s policies.
