There has been a recent uptick in the number of people falling back on their retirement accounts and withdrawing funds. The reasons for this range from hardships such as unforeseen medical bills to a loss of employment, rising educational costs, and more.
Craig Reid, president and national retirement practice leader at Marsh McLennan Agency, recently spoke with The New York Times about how this trend is, among other things, yet another result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also discussed his recommended financial well-being strategies to help individuals be more in tune with their finances.
“It’s just more expensive to live these days, and that’s what’s putting the pinch on participants,” said Craig. “Some of it is still spillover from the COVID pandemic. A lot of it is inflation—just the grind of daily life.”
