Physical Well-being Playbook Step 1: Evaluate Needs

Begin with evaluating your organization’s needs.

Employers

The first step in promoting physical well-being is to understand and evaluate the unique needs of the population.

Complete an organizational physical well-being assessment that considers your industry, location, and demographics to find opportunities to promote physical well-being in the workplace.

Employees

Individual assessments may help employees determine where to start when it comes to improving their physical well-being. Health risk assessments and preventive screenings provide feedback on personal physical well-being and serve as markers for evaluating change in subsequent years.

Employers

  • Conduct an employee survey to learn about employees’ physical well-being interests, their perceptions about their physical health, their readiness to change, and how you as the employer can assist them in meeting their physical well-being goals.
  • Evaluate available resources and determine leadership involvement in the well-being program.
  • Complete an environmental assessment of the workplace.
  • Review existing policies that promote physical well-being.
  • Evaluate available medical claims and other data sources.
