Building stronger communities: Dakotas' dedication to service

Giving back to the community is more than an objective for the Marsh McLennan Agency’s Dakotas offices—it’s a part of their legacy. The Dakotas support their communities with charitable activities such as cleaning up neighborhoods, cheering for runners, and delivering meals. These offices also contributed $412,000 in community impact dollars through the third quarter and they’re just getting started! 

Champions of the United Way

Nowhere is the Dakotas’ commitment more impactful than in their work with United Way. During their 2023 giving campaigns, the offices collectively donated over $230,000. For several years, the United Way of Cass Clay has recognized the Fargo office as a Top 50 Generous Workplace and a Top 25 Engaged Workplace. Additionally, the Sioux Falls office is a member of the Sioux Empire United Way’s Corporate & Small Business Heart Club. 

The Fargo offices’ 2023 United Way campaign theme was “We are MMA Worldwide,” emphasizing countries where Marsh McLennan Agency colleagues live and work. Campaign events included:

• A paper airplane throwing contest
• A silent auction
• A travel-themed trivia contest
• An international themed potluck
• The popular tradition of the bosses’ breakfast
• The “Running of the Bulls” meat raffle
• The “Where in the World Am I?” colleague photo contest

Pillars of giving

To cap off 2023, the Dakotas will generously donate $20,000 to eight different non-profit organizations in their communities. Two $2,500 recipients will be chosen in each of the Dakotas’ four pillar categories:

1. Children’s Quality of Life
2. Economic Development/Community Vitality
3. Veteran’s Services
4. Workforce Development

Connecting to causes

Dakotas’ team members supported their communities in 2023 through various volunteering efforts that let colleagues support the causes and organizations they love. Marsh McLennan Agency offers the benefit of paid time off for community service, which helps colleagues fit volunteering into their busy lives. Dakotas’ efforts included:

• Birthday box building for Box of Balloons
• Blanket making for the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center
• Food repacking at the Great Plains Food Bank
• Grounds clean-up at the Altru Family YMCA
• Various volunteering support at the Special Olympics
• Weekly meal delivery for Meals on Wheels

Marsh McLennan Agency Fargo

• Handing out backpacks with United Way Cass Clay
• Manning an aid station for the Essentia Health (Fargo) marathon
• Mile sponsoring and cheering squad at the Bio Girls 5K
• Packing meals with Feed My Starving Children
• Sanding, staining, and varnishing chairs for a Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch facility
• Sandbagging support for our community during flood season
• Volunteering for the Bismarck United Way Day of Caring
• Weekly meal delivery for Meals on Wheels

Marsh McLennan Agency Sioux Falls

• Buying gifts for the Angel Tree
• School cleanup with the Boys and Girls Club
• Serving at Ag Appreciation Day
• Sorting with America Greater Goods
• Volunteering with EmBe Girls on the Run

Every volunteer event that Marsh McLennan Agency helps with aims to support the community. The Dakotas offices did a lot of great work this year. Next year, their efforts will only be more extraordinary.
