Frequently asked questions

A GPEL policy provides higher levels of liability protection when a lawsuit exceeds the coverage levels in your existing policies (automobile, homeowners, tenant, recreational vehicle or watercraft insurance policies). GPEL policies are specifically designed to cover damages you or an eligible member of your household are legally obligated to pay as a result of bodily injury, property damage, or personal injury (including libel or slander).

The first thing to understand is that the risk of a personal liability lawsuit often rises as your assets, earnings, and profile increase. There are many reasons someone might legitimately have a large claim against you for personal damages: a fatality or catastrophic injury in an auto accident, accidental injury that occurs on your property, or accidental damage you cause to someone else’s property. Even a public remark or online post can create liability.

Group personal excess liability is designed to cover what you or a covered family member may be legally liable for beyond the limits of your primary auto, homeowners, renters, recreational vehicle, motorcycle and watercraft policies.

The average liability settlement in the U.S. has grown to more than $2 million. Although your underlying homeowners, auto, or watercraft policy typically includes liability coverage, it’s rarely enough protection in the event of a significant lawsuit, socially inflated award, or so-called “nuclear verdict.”

To report a new claim or discuss an existing claim, please contact GPEL@MarshMMA.com or call 855-441-5397.

If you’re currently enrolled in the GPEL benefit , you will still need to re-enroll to maintain coverage for 2024.
